Deep Fried S’mores: A Crispy, Gooey Twist on a Classic Treat

If you love the classic combination of chocolate, marshmallows, and graham crackers, then Deep Fried S’mores are a must-try! This fun and indulgent twist on the traditional campfire treat features gooey marshmallow and melty chocolate wrapped in a crispy, golden batter. Perfect for a fair or a fun dessert at home, this recipe is sure to impress!

Ingredients

  • 1 package (8 sheets) graham crackers, crushed
  • 2 cups mini marshmallows
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting

Instructions

  1. Prepare the S’mores:
Break the graham crackers into small pieces, then assemble the s’mores by layering a piece of graham cracker, a small handful of mini marshmallows, and a few chocolate chips. Top with another piece of graham cracker to create little sandwich-like s’mores. Set aside.
  2. Make the Batter:
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Add the milk, egg, and vanilla extract, and stir until smooth. The batter should be thick enough to coat the s’mores.
  3. Heat the Oil:
In a deep frying pan or pot, heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil over medium-high heat to 350°F (175°C). You can test the oil by dropping a small amount of batter in – if it sizzles and floats to the top, the oil is ready.
  4. Dip the S’mores in Batter:
Carefully dip each prepared s’more into the batter, ensuring it is fully coated. Use tongs to gently lower the s’mores into the hot oil.
  5. Fry the S’mores:
Fry the s’mores in batches for 2-3 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy on all sides. Use tongs to remove them from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  6. Serve:
Dust the fried s’mores with powdered sugar and serve immediately while they’re still warm and gooey. Enjoy with a side of chocolate sauce or marshmallow dip for an extra indulgence.

Tips for the Best Deep Fried S’mores

  1. Use Mini Marshmallows: Mini marshmallows melt more easily and are the perfect size for these bite-sized s’mores.
  2. Don’t Overcrowd the Pan: Fry in batches to avoid overcrowding, which can cause the temperature of the oil to drop and result in soggy s’mores.
  3. Experiment with Fillings: You can add peanut butter or caramel inside the s’mores for a fun variation.
